The current meteorological forecast service lacks granularity in location and time (link). Forecasts are made for the next 2 hours over irregularly shaped areas.
Rain imaging data over the island is available at 5-minute intervals (link). This data can be used to train a model to forecast the probability of rain over a particular spot on the island for the next 10 minutes to half an hour. This info will be useful for people who need to run quick errands nearby.
Google is pursuing a study in this direction (link) so there is merit in using images instead of atmospheric parameters like pressure and chemical composition for weather prediction.
